Today I installed WordPress on my test server. It was fast.  I was actually impressed. Not that Joomla is not easy too, but WordPress definitely won. I liked that the installer is responsive, so I actually did the whole process from my tablet, just for fun.

I liked that you can download and install plug-ins from the same place (like Joomla). Now,  one thing I was not expecting was to be able to download templates from the same place. I’m probably not going to use it as much,  but I bet that if you are starting a website this feature is superb.

Another feature that I’m really enjoying a lot is the mobile app. In fact, I’m writing from it right now. Of course, this is another thing that I cannot do while I’m out at sea, but it’s nice to have while I’m on dry land. Besides, I could always write from my phone/tablet and then upload the articles as soon as I have Internet. Now, I did not like that the WYSIWYG does not have any other attributes other than href. This is not good for SEO. I guess I could go back to the articles later or add them by hand.

But yet, there is one feature that I can use while I’m out at sea. It’s the standalone post submission form. Why I like it? Well, the number one problem with writing a blog while I’m at sea us that the Internet really really sucks so loading any CMS just to write an article might some times take several minutes. With WordPress I can go directly to the article posting page. They even give me a link and a bookmarklet! Yeah, I’m pretty happy with it.

And this takes me to the next topic, being able to use my email to submit an article to my website. Sometimes the Internet is so slow at sea that not even Google loads. But there’s a workaround: email. I think that is really nice that this is featured out of the box in WordPress. Back in Joomla I would have to buy an extension to do this. I am yet to test this feature.

I’m going to star working on a template and let’s see when can I publish this website to my live website.
